'The Clay'

Cornwall has seen many changes in the last few years with another just weeks away when GBRf take over the clay, on 3rd March DB 66116 still in EWS livery with DB stickers ambles down towards Middleway crossing with 6G09 Goonbarrow Junction to Fowey Docks in the Spring sunshine. 03.03.2026, copyright Alan Peters.

With the Sun threatening to make an appearance I made a mad dash after work to capture 6G09. Sadly the Sun was behind a thick lump of Squiff and it only burnt through as I was on my way home. Anyway, this view is slightly higher than Mr Hird's view!! 03.03.2026, copyright Steve Clark.
The next day, Wednesday, 66116 was again at the head of the Goonbarrow - Fowey. It's seen dropping down over Prideaux Viaduct with another 16 JIA's of clay for export. 04.03.2026, copyright Jon Hird.
The train heads on towards St. Blazey Bridge level crossing at Tywardreath Highway. To the right of the rail line the fields are still flooded from the many weeks of rain the county has endured. Highway Garage on the left suffered serious flooding in late January when the volumes of water overwhelmed the flood defence systems. 04.03.2026, copyright Jon Hird.

Roger Geach
One of the great places to photograph the class 59 locos was West Ealing, where you'd see both the loaded and empty trains. 59001 is seen approaching West Ealing with a Merehead to Acton jumbo train on Saturday 19.02.1994. There were far more stone trains running on a Saturday back then, however it did vary. The view is no longer possible due to the electrification of the line. Copyright Roger Geach.
