Many thanks indeed, Roger - a photo you can almost hear!

Fal Viaduct
Jon Hird

Picture
43004 and 43093 work 2C68, the 1142 Plymouth - Penzance, over the little-photographed Fal Viaduct. In the distance can be seen Combe (St. Stephens) viaduct. This area is jam-packed with history dating back centuries. Between the two structures there was once a siding off the up main, which served a mine in the valley. Perched on top of the grassy hill behind the rear power car lie the remains of Resugga Castle, an Iron Age Hill Fort. Perhaps that would have been a good name for one of the GWR powercars - a missed opportunity? 28.02.2025, copyright Jon Hird.
