The Steve Marshall Memorial Train
Jon Hird, Clive Smith & Paul Barlow

Many readers will know, or at least likely will have heard of, Steve Marshall, of Globe Videos fame.

Steve sadly passed away in 2025.

On May 31st 2026, a group of Steves friends, including Roger Geach, along with Steve's widdow, Hilda, chartered a train in his memory on the Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway, hauled by resident class 37 no. 37275.

An unusual but very welcome opportunity was provided to disembark at the mothballed Churston station for some photographs whilst the train waited for the service set to pass by. Most of the train alighted for a shot. 31.05.2026, copyright Jon Hird.

For the second trip to Kingswear the train had a break of over two hours. Plenty of time for some refreshments at the adjacent Steam Packet Inn, reminisce and a chance to take some great shots from the footbridge after the stock was shunted into the far platform for the 15.55 to Paignton. The earlier 12.10 departure was a quick turnaround off another platform with the loco off the end. A great afternoon and good to see some old faces who knew Steve from back in the day. 31.05.2026, copyright Clive Smith.

A hearty congratulations and thank you to those who organised this fantastic charter. A fitting tribute to Steve.

A super afternoon weather wise to visit St Blazey and observe the various movements in connection with the Royal Duchy charter. I hadn't seen Eddystone in the area so it was a nice opportunity to see her and meet up with the DB / MP Kernow team. 34028 is pictured running into the yard area at St. Blazey prior to being turned. 31.05.2026, copyright Craig Munday.

WCR 47848 was the tail loco and visited St. Blazey with a shunt with the support coach, so that was a bonus in the strong sunshine. Though maroon really doesnt suit the 47s (in my opinion). 31.05.2026, copyright Craig Munday.

Many thanks Paul, that light and tide too good to refuse a photo of the DMU's!
