Bodmin Parkway
Andrew & Diane Jones
I was picking up by grand daughter from her graduation at Bristol.
I hadn't realised that this journey now requires a change at Plymouth with very few direct connections to the city.
Cross Country mainly operates from Plymouth and the ramifications of this means that Cornish passengers travelling north are often disrupted by cancellation and breakdowns.
Indeed the previous workings had been affected by signalling faults and damage to track requiring inspection.
Competition from motor coach services and Newquays heavily subsidised Airport, are now becoming a serious contender given the fact they offer a booked seat and don't allow standing! something the railways struggle with when connections are missed and strangely seems acceptable in an era of safety litigation.
Anyway at least I managed a photograph of one of the last GWR covered footbridges in the region with a comfortable hst making slight amends to my grand daughters eventful journey for all the wrong reasons.
I'm really not grumpy or awkward ( although you might ask Diane for her opinion), but just old enough to remember when life was much easier!
Very best wishes Andrew and Diane
