Following the severe Gale Force winds over Southern England Harry Patch was destined to arrive back into Penzance within 4 hours. The preceeding train being the 08.28 Voyager Service to Glasgow Central hit a fallen tree near Respryn, Bodmin Parkway. On the television local news passengers were seen detraining from the Voyager where upon bus services ferried the passengers to Plymouth. The 08.44 service from Penzance terminated at Par and worked back in the path of the first down London which was cancelled at Plymouth.

Pinnock tunnel -
a failed CRS visit
On the 3rd April 1993 the CRS had arranged a tour which would have included a drive through the Pinnock tunnel, the old St Blazey to Fowey line had by then been converted to a 'haul road'. However due to important work taking place on one of the bridges over the haul road near Fowey we were not permitted to drive though and had to make do with walking the haul road to the entrance to the tunnel. Thanks to Mary Fill for allowing us to use John's images.

and finally a retreat back the way we had come. A view looking out of the west end of the tunnel through the rectangular extension into the roof of which extraction fans had been installed to draw out diesel fumes from the tunnel. During this operation the 'up and over' door which can be seen retracted into the roof would be shut. Copyright the late John Fill
