Relics of the Bideford, Westward Ho and Appledore Railway
1901 to 1917
Roger Winnen

I paid a visit to North Devon on Saturday to explore what remains of the above railway which only lasted sixteen years, being requisitioned by the Government to help the war effort in France. However one locomotive was relocated to Avonmouth and lasted until 1937, the other two was dispatched from a South Wales port to France, but lost aboard ship in the Bristol Channel.  In the last few years reports suggest that two engines were discovered lying on the seabed it the Bristol Channel.  Is it true or false.?

When I worked at Axminster station, they would be pressed into service to cover, when there was a loco failure and nothing else was available. Sometimes a '4TC' SET and a '33/1' were used.
