St Austell footbridge in peril
Tony Brokenshire

A recent announcement in a local paper tells us that during the heavy gales on the night of the 14th October a large galvanised sheet which formed part of the roof of this footbridge blew off causing the platform to be temporally closed.  This is an 1892 listed structure which locals, including the MP, wish to be returned to use.

Truro today
Roger Aston

Cross Country  Voyager 220 010 runs into Truro with 1M49 the 10.15 service to Manchester Piccadilly passing Track Recording Unit 950 001 which arrived this morning and is unusually stabled on the short siding in Truro Yard which I believe was originally part of one of the two down freight Lines.
Best regards, Roger            Many thanks Roger

NR Class 150 runs
Karl Hewlett

The yellow Network Rail class 150 test unit is currently in the South West and is due to do a quick run around the area in the next couple of days.  Be warned however its trip to Gunnislake and Fowey on the 1st of November was cancelled due to a problem at the depot (MU), which in this case is Laira T&RSMD and no other details are known as to why.  At the moment it is pencelled in to do the following:

02nd November  (Today)
Laira T&RSMD to Truro Yard via Newquay:

04th November
Truro Yard to Derby RTC via Falmouth:

Might be worth keeping an eye on the links just in case it changes again.
Kind Regards, Karl (Friends of Penmere Station).   Thanks Karl
My apologies to you all and Karl for this late announcement.
St Austell
Andrew Jones
The station has seen many recent changes, the old signalbox, closed on the 22nd March 1980, is still there, although in poor condition. The photograph was taken from the pedestrian footbridge adjacent Palace Road, up until 1931, this was the location of a level crossing. The new lifts are now in place and the mix of modern and the original up side GWR buildings blend well. The 11.43 to Plymouth is about to leave.
St Austell is now controlled from Par signal box, but a ground frame exists at the eastern end of the station, which once gave access to the Motorail service and the Carlyon Road goods yard.
I have included two photographs of the truncated siding.
The 11.37 down Penzance is passing the cut back siding and you can now see the extensive redevelopment of the old Carlyon Road goods yard.
The junction photograph is looking east from the road overbridge opposite the station.
Hopefully these survivors will remain.
Best wishes Andrew                                        Many thanks Andrew
