HST Power Car fire
Penzance Station
Roger Winnen

It was reported on the local news programmes this morning that a HST Power Car was on fire at Penzance Station last night. 43138 is shown on Youtube with smoke billowing from its engine compartment after working the  14.03 Paddington to Penzance service. The 15.03 Paddington-Penzance service due at 20.40 was held at St Erth for one hour before proceeding to Penzance arriving at 21.53hrs  Five fire appliances attended the scene at Penzance Station during which time the station was evacuated, however there were no injuries as the passengers had by this time left the station before the fire broke out. Visiting the station on Wednesday morning revealed that the offices together with the ticket office were closed awaiting the all clear from the toxicologist taking samples. Tickets however were being sold by travelling ticket inspectors on the platform.

Hawkeridge
Guy Vincent

Here's a picture of Hawkeridge Junction to add to the Bradford Junction-Westbury collection.  The area between the two lines and the road is used by Network Rail for materials storage so, as a result, is very untidy.  Beyond the railway is one of several recently-constructed solar farms.  From the White Horse they look like lakes!  Guy Vincent.
                                               Many thanks Guy

Royal Albert Bridge
Andrew Jones
It's the 29th April 1984, just found this photograph amongst a number, of the day we were all allowed to walk over the Royal Albert Bridge, I am the 80's looking chap carrying my youngest daughter Sienna in a back pack facing the camera. Can't believe I am officially a pensioner in June! Best Wishes Andrew     Many thanks Andrew
