Classic Traction
on the Cornish Test Train
Martin Scane, Julian Stephens, Jon Hird, Roger Winnen, Mark Lynam, Andrew Triggs & Jonathan Harbage

On 07.02.2025, the usual HST-hauled south west test train (1Q18) was unexpectedly hauled by a pair of Colas Rail class 37's, 37057 and 37610. As expected, the train was very well photographed - enjoy a selection below.

I had a busy day at work today and had very little time to get anywhere exciting to see the working, so I made use of the drone to capture this photograph of 37057 leading past Trethullan (near Crugwallins/Burngullow). 07.02.2025, copyright Jon Hird.

Again, Mark and Andrew must have been shoulder to shoulder! 37610 leads the train past Marazion heading to Paignton - BUT - due to technical issues at Plymouth, the train was delayed and the Paignton trip would be missed out. 07.02.2025, copyright Mark Lynam.

The video above shows two 37’s, 37610 leading and 37057 on the rear, on a test train heading east out of Truro. It’s years since I have seen a pair of 37’s on full throttle in Cornwall. Click the triangle in the thumbnail image above to play. Copyright Jonathan Harbage.
Thank you so much, everyone, for sending in your photos (and video) - hopefully our readers will enjoy them.

Thanks, Andrew - they look very smart in their matching liveries out in the sunshine.
