Nocturnal Ballast Deliveries

Colas Rail 70809 was in action in the early hours of 13th January 2025 with a mainline ballast drop between Totnes and Tavistock Junction, where the train worked to Plymouth to run round before heading back to Westbury, the class 70 is seen at Totnes with 5 loaded auto hoppers. Many thanks Alan - a super couple of night shots.

Bitton Shunters
Guy Vincent

A quick look-in at Bitton, home of the Avon Valley Railway and two former BR shunters currently on site.

1) 08927 in green undercoat and with signs of recent repairs to the cab front.

2) 09004, or rather D3668 if you prefer.  This loco is in ex-works condition in BR blue. It arrived at Bitton in 2024 following a period at the Swindon & Cricklade railway and on hire to industry.

Last time I visited Bitton there were other shunters present but these have since departed.  Former long-term resident 07010 has moved to Peak Rail, Darley Dale and 08202 is at the Llangollen Railway.  08663 is reportedly on long-term hire to Hitachi at Newton Aycliffe, the loco was for several years based at Bristol St Philips Marsh depot.

Finally, former Severn Tunnel emergency rescue train loco 09015 was hidden within the yard and out of view.

With regards

Guy V

Many thanks, Guy - they look to be a very well kept pair of locos.

St. Austell Shots
Steve Clark

After spending the morning on Fistral Beach, there was little time for Railway related stuff but I did manage a couple of images at St Austell when I picked my Son up.
