Railtour Calendar

New to the website is a Railtour Calendar. The ambition is to add to it all railtours due to visit Devon & Cornwall over the coming months.

We hope it will prove useful.

Please take a look (click here) and if you know of anything that we've missed, please drop us an email - [email protected]

Double 70's
Guy Vincent

Today (21.02), the regular 4O57 1329 Wentloog - Southampton Maritime Freightliner working was double-headed due to failure of the inside loco, 70014, near Basingstoke on the outbound 4V50 0424 from Maritime.  70007 was dispatched as a 'Thunderbird' rescue loco and hauled the train through to South Wales ready for the later working.

I was able to capture this unusual sight twice; firstly at Freshford and then again as it approached the summit of the 1-in-75 Upton Scudamore 'bank, where weather conditions were dire with heavy rain and a strong south-westerly gale.  All credit to the driver for keeping the heavy train on schedule despite being held at a red signal at Westbury for around 7 minutes.

Sea wall triple-header
Jon Hird

Picture
37308, 37047 and 60041 lead redundant TPO stock through Dawlish on an Exeter Riverside - St. Blazey ECS movement on 18.02.2004. The train had earlier ran up to Exeter Riverside with 37047 leading the charge. This photograph has been rescued using some 'upscaling' software. It was originally a low resolution mess taken by myself on a very basic, early, compact digital camera. With new technology, even the worst images from yesteryear can be revived. Copyright Jon Hird.
