High Wood, Liskeard
The railway connection
Peter Murnaghan
Brian Oldham, of the Liskeard Old Cornwall Society and I felt that it would be a good idea to raise the awareness of this old railway, that closed over 100 years ago in 1917. With the support and help of Protect Earth, we have created an information board, telling the story of the old mineral railway.
Sited at the top of the steps, at the southern end of the wood, the new sign will be officially unveiled on Saturday 21st February by the President of the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies. You are warmly welcomed to come and witness this unveiling at 2.00pm.
The site is easily reached by walking the length of the track from the Woodhill end. Alternatively, by walking up the track from Looe Mills, near Moorswater, for about 400 yards, the newly improved steps on your right will bring you to the site of the new sign.
It will be a modest opening (no bunting or refreshments), but it will mark a new chapter in raising awareness of the old railway line to walkers and visitors who might have previously been unaware. Using What three words, the approximate site of the notice is ///briskly.victor.node
