Happy Christmas to everyone.
A visit to the Bicton Gardens Railway & Museum
By Roger Winnen
Part 1
First opened in 1962, it originally boasted two locomotives, 'Carnegie' and 'Woolwich', which were obtained from the Royal Arsenal Railway in Woolwich. These locomotives were later sold to the Waltham Abbey museum, and the railway is currently worked by a steam-outline, diesel-powered locomotive.
The harsh gradients of over 1 in 30 meant that a larger than normal gauge was required, which led to the rather unusual choice of 18" gauge being used.
Rogers photographs below feature a visit to the line on 22.05.1977
