46045 to Weymouth 1983
Clive Smith
Now preserved and operated by the Peak Locomotive Company, 46045 has been a solid reliable performer over a number of years, particularly recently at the Severn Valley Railway where it has covered for steam locomotives. It has also operated in the winter being one of the few preserved diesel locos with a working steam heat boiler bringing valuable income for the company to keep its other locos 44004, 45041 and 45108 all operating.
In summer 1983 a number of 46s went to Weymouth from Bristol and I was fortunate enough to be on two of them. These photos are of 46045 on the 16.15 Bristol TM - Weymouth, returning on the 19.57 departure to Bristol. The date is 10th September 1983.

Swanage Diesels

A visit last Tuesday to the Swanage railway. No steam due to the hot weather, but the 33s were out instead. 33053 and d6515 (33012) were the locos in use.

The Flying Banana & Kemble Airfield

My original intention was to go to Kemble to take a looking down on the 'Flying Banana' [the New Measurement train making its monthly visit to this area] as it sped through Kemble station - ON TIME - and then go to looking down on where Oaksey station WAS and take the 'Flying Banana' heading back up towards Kemble. BUT about 30 minutes BEFORE it was due, I saw it go under the road bridge from my parked car, RTT says:- Gloucester 2 LATE, Standish Junction 2 LATE, Storehouse 38 LATE - [Re-checking RTT, it had made a mistake in the time of 1Q15 at this point!!], Stroud 1 LATE, Kemble - 3 LATE, Swindon arrive 2 LATE, depart 25 EARLY - did it reverse in platform 3 and NOT go to Cockleberry Sidings to reverse? Kemble [on the return journey] 20 EARLY, Gloucester (Over Junction) 18 EARLY] - those are the time of my typing this e-mail. Anyone know why 1Q15 went back up the Gloucser branch without spending its waiting time at Swindon, please? 25.08.2026, copyright Ken Mumford.
BUT en route from Kemble to Oaksey I stopped and photographed these two [of very many] aircraft 'stored' at Cotswold Airfield [Kemble Airfield]. So, in some ways the aircraft photo made up for what I was going to miss at Oaksey!
