Newquay Platform 2 Test
Martin Duff

Wednesday 20/08/2025 at 00.29, a 4 car Sprinter reached the reinstated platform at Newquay in readiness for the forthcoming upgrade.

150233/150243 worked a special 23.52 empty stock from Par, which started early.

The return working left again at 01.14 for Par.

The last time passenger stock stood at this platform was 10/10/1987 the day the signal box closed.

Many thanks indeed, Martin - great that you were there to capture the historic moment.

Gloucester Warwickshire Railway Diesels
Steve Clark

With my Son visiting Cornwall we decided on a nice chilled out day riding the Heritage Diesels on the GWR. The line is currently 'Diesel Only' due to the dry weather so we were able to enjoy Class 37 D6948/37248 and 47105.

If anyone wants to see more pictures from the day, they are on Flickr via the link provided including 2 Video clips of the Locos thrashing through Greet Tunnel : Steve Clark | Flickr

Arriving at Winchcombe with the first service of the day is D6948 with the 10.15 off Cheltenham Racecourse. The promised sun did not appear until later in the day!!! 16.08.2025, copy

50 shades of BR Blue - Well 3 actually!! 47105 arrives on shed and passes 26043 and 45149

With thanks to the Crew of the 37, i was walked across to the other platform to allow a sunny side shot of the Tractor. Notice in the background that building work is still continuing. Everything at Broadway has been built from the ground up and is a credit to the Railway. The Signalbox is not yet operational

Hello Roger, Great pictures on the site, yours of the Newquay line brought back memories, thanks. Here is Michael Adam's picture of 155311 arrived at Oxford with the 12.15 from Hereford on 5 April 1988,a service now covered by IEPs, I know which I preferred. Thanks, Michael Forward.

Roger, My own picture now at the other end of your area and we see 155326 at the site of Long Rock signal box on 17 June 1988 with the 06.45 Swindon to Penzance, arriving at 12.10. Thanks and best wishes, Michae
Many Thanks to you both
Roger

'Castles' in the countryside

From the opposite direction came 43189 leading 2C20, the 1128 Exeter - Penzance. Off the up side line here there was once a siding which served an iron mine. This siding had fallen into disuse and was removed by the 1880s. The only evidence of it that I could see was the extra width between the railway and the wall of the cutting. 20.08.2025, copyright Jon Hird.
