Work begins at Newquay Station
Richard Curtis

Hello,

Ive attached 3 pictures I took today showing the cleared trackbed of former sidings and part of the old platform 3. I assume this is to be a compound for the various equipment and infrastructure that is required for the reinstatement of platform 1.

Work only started on Tuesday but they have already uncovered the old platform 1 and removed the palm trees. I was there just before an expected arrival (around 10.45) and it surprised me how many people were waiting. I can understand network rail choosing platform 1 rather than 3 as it will help spread out the number of people using the station which at a time like boardmasters makes complete sense.

Finally a picture of what I believe was the original pre GWR station building which is due to be demolished soon to make way for a multipurpose building for Cornwall council.

Kind regards,

Richard

Many thanks indeed Richard - exciting times for Newquay.

Truro Tamper

Today we saw the Colas tamper on its way from Penzance to Taunton, running 3 minutes early on its way out of Truro. It was a lovely morning to do some Permanent-Way Watching, being not too cold, but still cold enough to feel like a fresh day. Copyright Joe Birchall.
Thanks Joe - it did turn out a nice day!
