19/1 Exploring part of the Turnchapel Branch on 18th December, 2015 by Roger Winnen

19/12/2015

I decided to explore parts of the Turnchapel Branch together with the recently opened railway bridge across the River Plym for a possible society walk in 2016. The weather was dark and dismal but it was well worth the effort and hopefully I can slot this into the 2016 programme.

17/3   I wanted an excuse!!

17/12/2015

Evening Keith, Don't know if you want to put this on the CRS web pages or not but the lovely signals in the Barnetby area will all be gone after the 24th December as the whole area from Scunthorpe Appleby to Grimsby is re-signaled over the Christmas and New Year period and the whole lot will then come under control from the York ROC  . So if anyone from the far west is thinking of  going up to North Lincolnshire to see the signals they have not got long. Possession comes on on the 24th December . Ulceby signal box will also be shut on the line into Immingham docks and is due to be demolished. Note the large number of photographers at Barnetby , around 40.  You will see more freight in one day at Barnetby the Cornwall sees in  six months.
May be of interest so i thought I send them,  Cheers  Roger Geach

With our news that the Cornish Semaphores are to stay until 2026 we have cause to celebrate and commiserate with our friends up north. My excuse for using these pictures is that Roger is a Cornishman living in exile at Retford and also regular supporter of our web site. Very many thanks to you Roger.  These 'up north' pictures are to be an exception on this website.

Good News for Christmas -  a very strong rumour.

17/12/2015

For all those semaphore fans out there the good news news is that resignalling of Cornwall  has been put back to 2026. To facilitate the 30 min service extra IB's will be installed at Menheniot, Bodmin, Drump Lane/ Trenowin with a possible panel put into Roskear J!  Time to celebrate one hopes.

16/2   It is with many thanks to Martin Duff we learn of Britain's Quietest Station, and second quietest - one of ours.

17/12/2015

Many thanks to Martin Duff with his finger on the pulse of the rail system and eye on the press he draws our attention to a BBC article on the usage of Britain's stations.  Coombe Junction is No.2 quietest in UK. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35105105 A very Interesting article.
