Looking back, more anniversaries                 From Mike Roach

LYNTON & BARNSTAPLE

There was great sadness in North Devon 8o years ago as the last passenger train left Lynton for the 19-mile run to Barnstaple on Sunday 29 September 1935. The line was narrow gauge, one of the few in England. Since 1979 a preservation society has been slowly rebuilding the line. The Welsh Highland Railway also closed in the 1930s, but has since been relaid and reopened in its entirety as a 25-mile tourist railway. This shows what is possible. Both railways are nominally 600mm gauge.

Ten years later on Saturday 29 September 1945 the last tram ran in Plymouth. By then there was just one line left from the City Centre to Peverell. This was a result of a closure programme, and replacement by motor buses, which had started in 1930.

Regards   Mike                          Many thanks for these timely reminders

Reaping the Harvest                                                 Craig Munday

29/9/2015

I'm reaping the sunny days on my travels. A visit to Towan crossing near Lelant resulted in a glorious shot of 150101 on the branch shuttles.
57603 is pictured running across Angarrack viaduct above super Autumnal colours with the Night Riviera. The new GWR is featured on the locomotive and front coach. Two units are pictured in the bright sunlight at Copperhouse, Hayle requiring a 1/1000 shutter speed! Way above what I usually use.
Cheers  Craig                                      Many thanks Craig

A beautiful morning on the River Fowey                  Keith Barrow

28/9/2015

Hi Keith, With another beautiful autumn morning in prospect, I decided to pop up to Lostwithiel before work to catch the first clays of the week heading down to Fowey. 66078 is pictured alongside the upper reaches of the River Fowey just beyond Coulson Park as it accelerates away from the junction with 6G06, the 07.37 CDAs from Goonbarrow.  Regards Keith Barrow  Many thanks.

We commented on this superb picture and wondered how Keith gained such an elevation? Did he use a drone we wondered?
Keith Replied.  Thank you. The photo was taken with the aid of 16ft pole with a tripod head mounted on the top - a weapon in the battle against encroaching lineside vegetation!

A Brief visit to Bodmin and Lostwithiel on Saturday afternoon by Roger Winnen

27/9/2015

With only a few hours spare after playing with the brass band until noon at Sithney near Helston I returned home by 13.15hrs, a quick sandwich and tea was had before I departed on the 14.01 service from Penzance to Bodmin Parkway and Lostwithiel where these next few photographs were taken.
