Lostwithiel Level Crossing Incident

20/7/2013

Readers will know Craig Munday as an experienced and much respected railwayman and photographer whose work and reports appear very regularly on this section. However this report, extracted from the Cornish Guardian shows that he was witness to a serious incident at Lostwithiel.

Court Appearance over a  Level Crossing Incident at Lostwithiel

Signalman Craig Munday told the Bodmin Magistrates' Court that on Saturday, February 16, he had been working in the signal box when he activated the amber and then red signals to lower the barrier as a train was approaching from Bodmin Parkway station Signalman Craig Munday together with Andrew Greening, the local rail operations manager, who was also in the signalbox that day, said he too had seen the black hatchback – a Golf – "accelerate and pass over the crossing just as the barriers were about to fall". Mr. Munday took down the registration and reported the incident to police at 4.51pm. A note was also made in the train register logbook for that day.

At the court, at which the driver of the golf was found guilty, the accused’s mother was so outraged that she had to be sent to the cells for interrupting the trial. The judge told the accused "What you did was extremely dangerous, you could have killed yourself and others." As well as being banned from driving, the accused was fined £336 with £200 costs and a £33 victim surcharge.

Hi Keith,  The sun has shone, and the cameras have been out. Here are two pictures from last evening of 1C86 (HST) & 2C51 (class 153/150) on Coombe viaduct.

66152 buzzing around today - Nat & myself have some shots for you & off to Foy tomorrow from some high shots all being well.
Cheers for now  Craig                                             Many thanks Craig

Mike Roach spent some time waiting at Camborne for the special trains associated with Mazey day on the 29th June 2013.  You will see his pictures if you go to the Diesel Railtours section - these are also recent additions and well worth a look.
KJ apologies for the delay in publishing the picture below and those on Mazey day - this was due to a misunderstanding.

Rogers Devon Ramblings                                 Roger Winnen

10/7/2013

On Sunday 7th July 2013  Roger took to the rails (As he does nearly every day), and, making good use of the superb weather did a bit of Devon exploration visiting the Kingswear branch.

This very fine bridge is under sentence, last week saw the demise of Dawlish Signalbox and Christmas will not be a happy one for this double span bridge which crosses the main line and the lines to Paignton close to the site of Aller Junction. Access to the bridge long a site for photographers has been blocked pending its removal. The new Kingskerswell by pass road passes by the right hand side of the structure - if anyone has a full width picture of this bridge it would be appreciated. 7th July 2013 Copyright Roger Winnen As the supermarkets say - when its gone its gone!!

Train reporting numbers - mystery solved.   Craig Munday

9/7/2013

Some guidance was sought concerning the matter of headcodes or train reporting numbers which frequently appear on pictures taken by those within the Railway Industry.
Hi Keith,  The headcodes are a simple reference to the service really. The first number refers to the class of train. 1 - express passenger, 2 local passenger, 5 empty stock, 6 - 8 frieght. The letter designates the region the train is bound for. A - normally London, B Bristol, C west country. V is inter regional (to the west country). The last two numbers are simply running numbers. For example the up Pz to Paddingtons are 1A76 (Hind), 1A77, 1A78, 1A81, 1A83, 1A91, 1A94, 1A35, 1A40 (Sleepers).
I hope this helps.     Craig

Views from the reception                              Craig Munday

8/7/2013

Hi Keith
I was at my cousin Carla's wedding Saturday with the reception at the Lelant Golf club. Whilst photos were being taken, I slinked off to take a few of my own. Here's 150238 & 265 (the royal 150!) passing by the golf links with Hayle beach looking wonderful in the background.
Here's to a super July / August.   Craig   Naughty boy, but nice pictures. Thanks Craig
