Railway Bookstalls
John Roberts

Jon, following the demise of W H Smith's (although they say they'll keep the name for railway bookstalls), our readers may be interested in this article, including a photo of Wyman's on Redruth (Up?) Platform which I would estimate dates from the 1907-14 period.

www.culhamticketoffice.co.uk/bits/hidden-pages/bookstalls.html

I can recommend a visit to Culham Station (book in advance) with a 3-mile walk to Pendon model railway museum, although Appleford Station is the nearest to the museum at 1.5 miles. Best wishes, John Roberts.
An interesting resource, many thanks John. The shot of Redruth is great!
Further to the above, Roy Hart has written in to say:

The photograph was surely not taken at Redruth station. Perhaps someone was misled by the sign (an advert?) on the right of the picture. My guess is Camborne, where the bookstall was at the London end of the  up side building. The canopy is right for Camborne too.
Thanks Roy - any other thoughts from anybody?

In a sorry state!

Many thanks, Phil - both locos looking like they've seen better days.

Buckfastleigh Shunt
Martin Scane

I paid a visit to the South Devon Railway model shop today (03.04).

Whilst there I was treated to a bit of shunting activity in the Buckfastleigh yard area.

It was good to see the two steam engines being moved around plus great to see the 6 wheel milk tanker.
