David Tozer visits
The Welsh Highland Railway & The West Somerset Gala
Apologies for sending these photos in late. I have been away and one trip was behind my first photo. What a beauty. On my return it was off to Crowcombe Heathfield for the WSR Spring Gala.

Fresh Track at
Freshford
Alan Peters

This weekend (7th & 8th May) saw engineering work taking place at Freshford, in the early hours of Saturday the track has been cut and in the process of being lifted, in the distance Colas Rail 70809 is seen with 6C20 from Westbury waiting to be loaded with spoil

Unusually Colas Rail 56113 was in charge of 6C22 from Freshford to Westbury via Bristol Temple Meads and Taunton, seen at nearby Limpley Stoke in the sunshine on 7th May 2022 with 15 loaded Falcon wagons and 4 Coalfish wagons with 1,200 tonnes of spoil Copyright Driver Alan Peters .
A note courtesy Wikipedia -  Freshford railway station serves the village of Freshford, Bath and North east Somerset. It also serves the nearby village of Limpley Stoke.
For many years the station had a notable flower garden maintained by the Vaisey sisters. This later faded but in 2007 local residents renovated the garden and planted new flowers in the memory of the Vaisey sisters. A few weeks later staff fromNetwork Rail cut down all the flowers.
In February 2006, Platform 2 at Freshford was raised by 30 cm to reduce the large stepping gap between the train and the platform. It had been lowered in 1988 as part of the realignment of the track through the station to allow trains to pass at a faster speed. At the same time the platform was raised, the station also received additional improvements including better lighting and the construction of a new waiting shelter.[
All seems well at Freshford nowadays.
Nocturnal Grid
Driver Alan Peters

After a spirited performance working 6C22 back to Westbury, 56113 is seen at journeys end at Westbury Down Sidings after stabling the train, incidentally 2022 will see the 'Grid' celebrate its 40th birthday!

Question from Martin Scane
& answered by Graham Mann

Picture
Martin plus his camera was there for the 47's on their way down hauling the 'Cornish Explorer Statesman' on the 6th May 2022. The object of interest to the gathered throng was what is it called?. Obviously greasing the track, and surrounding area. The question is what is it called?
Graham Mann comes up with the official answer The official term is a “ rail flange lubricator” and there are hundreds on the infrastructure many of which are solar powered.
Kind Regards  Graham Mann
Many thanks Graham.
