Hi Keith,
Hope all is well with your goodself?
I was out and about signal fault finding on the B&WR on Saturday 30th April.  As you know that was also ‘GRONKS’ day.  I have attached some photographs that might be of interest for the website.  As always some of these were taken trackside and viewers should note that they should not trespass on the railway to take similar photographs.

Take care, Chris Bellett Retired S&T Engineer CRS Member

Further Castle Named
Guy Vincent

It has been reported this morning (Tuesday 3rd May) that 43171 has received new nameplates 'Raglan Castle' so another addition to the ongoing list.

Regards, Guy Vincent
Many thanks for that Guy, one wonders who chooses the names to be carried - Raglan Castle is some eight miles from Abergavenny  - with some local prejudice one wonders why not, say 'Carn Brea Castle'. This small but grand structure is just a quarter of a mile from an operational railway and visible from trains.

A reply from
Martin Duff
Yes, it's Ken Vigus Still very much with us and in good health. Ken retired from the platform chargeman grade at Truro about 20 years ago. A true railwayman who enjoyed a long and interesting career on Cornwalls railways. The film is a wonderful snapshot of the time isn’t it?! Cheers, Martin Duff.   A link to the BTF:  https://player.bfi.org.uk/free/film/watch-using-tops-1978-online

Dear Keith,
The photos of  DMU and a 'Peak' were taken just south of Torquay station, looking north.
Cheers,
Roy  Hart.

Keith, taking up today’s Neil Phillips’ challenge, the mystery location does indeed look like Teignmouth but is in fact Torquay, immediately south of the station. 1E70 was an afternoon Paignton to Northeast service, and this has taken me to a site I never knew existed: www.tauntontrains.co.uk/workingslog/bycode/1E70. I’ll pass it back to Neil now to deduce the number of the Peak. Happy days! John Roberts.
Many thanks to both Roy and John.

Class 22 project

Keith, following the success of the A1, were you aware of the project to recreate a Class 22? Should be of interest to our members given their popularity in the southwest and the mainstay of our secondary services in the 1960s. John.
