CDA Contamination
Bill Douglas
A response to Andrew Jones' request for information on the CDA contamination.

There was an article in Rail magazine no 145 dated April 3rd - 16th that described the issue.
Basicly customers were finding contamination in their consignments of Clay.
This was established to be caused by the lining material on the CDA's coming off the sides.
The solution was to remove it which was done at St Dennis Junction sidings.
The first train ran on December 1st 1990 & the last one was due to run on 31st March 1991.
I hope this is of use.
I have the original article but assume I can't post it as it would infringe copyright.

I enjoy my daily visit to your informative & interesting site....Keep up the good work

Cheers Bill Douglas
Many thanks indeed Bill, good to hear from you.

Good afternoon Keith/Roger,

Below are a few photos taken yesterday (Wednesday). around mid Cornwall.

1. 150202 sits in Platform 3 at Liskeard.

2. A quick stop off on the way back West as the sun was shining. 43004 + 43153 cross St Pinnock Viaduct in the colourful Glynn Valley working 2A84 1109 St Austell to Plymouth.

3. Lastly a venture though the woods at Fowey sees 66190 waiting to unload it's 7 JIA wagons bought down on 6G19 1232 Goonbarrow Junction Dbc to Fowey Dock Carne Point. Less wagons are used on Wednesdays as the others get loaded at Par Harbour in the morning.

Thanks,

Exeter Central Resignalling 1984
Paul Barlow

Good morning Keith

A set of pictures from 39 years ago of the Exeter Central re signalling scheme. The first phase of MAS installation in the Exeter area.

All Exeter to Waterloo trains were terminated/started at Pinhoe or Honiton, Exmouth train terminated/started at  Polsloe Bridge. Empty stock was stabled at Exmouth Junction.  A mini temporary panel was installed in the signal box until 3rd of May 1985 when the new panel at St Davids was operational.

More to follow

Kind regards

Paul

Sorry chaps – couldn’t resist sending you this.

Found in the Jamaica Inn Farm Shop.

The Brewery is in Grampound apparently. In the old days, the stuff could have gone by rail.....
