A quick visit to Exeter St Davids today to view 'station side' progress on the new traincrew and maintenance facility currently under construction adjacent to platform 6.  The new building in some ways merely replicates what was there before; who remembers the long wooden goods shed that burnt down some time in the 1990s?  One of the newly named HST power cars was noted as 43041 'St Catherine's Castle' had just arrived at the head of the 1112 ex Penzance.    Led by 43187 'The Welshman', the 'Castle Class 255 then departed for Plymouth at 1439.
We noticed that platform 6 has been temporarily shortened with the eastern end blocked to allow machinery access in order to sink new foundations and this work was very much in progress.

Newton Abbot

This one taken at Newton Abbot reminds us of what a big centre of activity Newton Abbot was with the full sidings and loco works over to the tight hand side, the west signalbox and all platforms in use. A Western awaits departure and overlooking the scene are the David and Charles coaches.  Many thanks Ron.
