I am unable to help with Piers Gough's inquiry regarding Pochin’s Puffing Billies, but I do have a cast Aluminium sign that maybe of some interest.

Dear Keith and Valerie,
Please find attached photograph taken adjacent the site of Brunel Quays at Lostwithiel in the 1990’s.
Many hours were spent here enjoying class 37’s performing brisk shunting movements in the now recently removed Fowey Branch bay and adjoining trackwork.
Between freight movements a passing up HST in ‘Intercity’ livery glides by with the distinctive
graceful swallow emblem, now much sort after by collectors, a recent sale achieved £3,000.
Its a great pity and possibly a huge mistake to apply vinyl on todays class 800 Hitachi series with little chance of revenue from collectors and the numerous charities that benefited from nameplate sales. Hopefully someone will see sense and reinstate a tradition dating back to the earliest steam locomotives.
Some steam plates are now making in excess of £70,000 with class 52 Western nameplates appreciating year on year. (when offered for sale by BR you could purchase one for £250!) Obviously the HST castle class plates will be much sort after!
 Best wishes Andrew and Diane

Many thanks Andrew and Diane, Brunel Quays is the name of the housing development on the site of the former up sidings at Lostwithiel. I  note with very great interest your comment on the value of nameplates. Noticing the recent naming of HST Power Cars which has been occurring despite their imminent demise. I mentioned this to our good friend Guy Vincent who pointed out that the plates are a very  good investment for the railway companies. Almost worth their weight in gold - well nearly so!
