Broag Gauge at Dawlish

Brunels pumping engine at Dawlish whiich only worked from 13th September 1847 to 9th September 1848 can be sen in the distance. The wall in the station car park with bricked up windows is what remains of the engine house.

View from the north quay. Across the basin on the south quay is the sand and block works, with to its right the concrete-encased timber trestle viaduct along the quay wall. Cement for the works came in by ship, and was stored in one or both of the buildings on the east quay buildings, to the left, which show evidence of having been altered by the insertion of wide ground floor doors for this storage. 50018 was one of the early withdrawals/ Into service April 1968, named 24th April 1978, withdrawn 22nd July 1991 and scrapped at MC Metals Glasgow January 1993.
