Before we leave Penryn a view of the bare branch line and basic station - the main station building is still standing but not for much longer. The former goods yard cleared of tracks was used as venue for car auctions for a while, however a large cluster of student buildings now occupies this area. 24th July 1979 (4) Copyright Howard Sprenger

The Goods shed at Perranwell has survived and in fact still survives under non railway ownership. 24th July 1979 (1) Copyright Howard Sprenger

A 'bus shelter' provides cover on the former down platform at Perranwell. This has been replaced by a much more elegant structure. Perranwell 24th July 1979 (2) Copyright Howard Sprenger
Many thanks Howard for your lookback to the past on the Falmouth branch - more to come we hope.

A grave matter
St Uny Churchyard

In a Cornish Churchyard - copyright Peter Flanagan
On a coastal walk a few days ago, I spotted this memorial stone in Uny Lelant graveyard. I thought it may be of interest. Out of respect for any relative, I decided not to include any name in the photo. Perhaps the gentleman laid to rest here was a fervent railway enthusiast, or a very keen member of GWR staff.
       Regards.......Peter.

Many thanks Peter, I wonder how long the gentleman has occupied the grave - the colours on the GWR insignia look very recent.

08 on parade
B & W
Jon Hird

08359 was out on some kind of trial run today (1st July 2023) with the BWR’s rake of clay hoods. The opportunity to get some photos without passengers on the veranda of the brake van was too good to pass up, so I headed out and got some shots of it on both of the railways branches.

I love the combination of the blue class 08 and the hoods, they go together so well and make for some nice photos.

I hope they are of some interest to you!

All the best, Jon Hird
