Electrification Problems
We are very grateful to Ken Mumford for drawing our attention to the following very interesting BBC report concerning problems under the Severn.  The £2.8bn full electrification of the main south Wales to London railway line is in the balance as engineers have an "issue" electrifying the Severn Tunnel. The kit holding electric wires above the track in the four-mile (6km) tunnel are failing because of the salty conditions under the Bristol Channel. Network Rail has spent three years and what is thought to be close to £20m to prepare the tunnel for electrification.

The above article makes very interesting reading featuring various pictures inside the tunnel.
