Signalman's warning?
Craig Munday

Hi there

I guess we all knew the start of 2024 was going to be a tough one, but the resignalling is now upon us. I'm not going to dwell on the sentimental side of things, but allow the images off the camera to speak for themselves. Please look out for the forthcoming The Railway Magazine which will feature a 9 page spread about the boxes closing, and also carries some super retro images from my dear friend Bernard Mills.

Yesterday brought a super pre-sunrise display of light across Par. It lit our famous semaphores at Par, for what could be the final time if the forecast is to be believed.

kind regards

Cornwall re-signalling day 2
Martin Duff

Afternoon admins,

I’ve been on site at Truro this afternoon (28.02). Lots of updates to share!

Signals T7 and T 50 (top of Pydar Street) between the viaducts remain for now and are due to be felled on Monday. Sobering to think they’ll never again show “a good off”.

That’s all for today.

Moving to Carvedras viaduct, a ballast train transited to the site from the down line after being stabled west of Truro. 66846 is seen passing over the out of use crossover 33 and soon to be recovered shunt signal 37. Copyright Martin Duff.

This is by now, the only semaphore shunt signal left. By the viaduct wall on the down line is T49, due to be felled in the next day or so. This signal is fairly new in comparison to the others, only being installed in 1992 (see earlier CRS pages Truro). Copyright Martin Duff.

On the viaduct we see the engineering train and Quattro road rail vehicles. These are working on the new crossover. Copyright Martin Duff.

Many thanks Martin for your comprehensive report and photographs, it is very much appreciated.

Thanks Paul - in the excitement of the box closures and semaphore felling, it's easy to forget about the Groundframe which will also go.
