Cornwall Resignalling
Chris Bellett
Hi Keith,
I note from comments on the CRS website that there is a mis-understanding that all of the mechanical signalling/signals in Cornwall are going to 'disappear' this November. That is not the case as Liskeard, St.Erth, St.Blazey and Goonbarrow Junction will remain as mechanical boxes.  Hope that clarifies things a bit.

Take Care,
Chris Bellett

Many Thanks for your clarification Chris

It has been a busy weekend on the West Somerset Railway with the operation of the stored Great Western HST sets being the principle attraction. (But it is nice to have a little steam as well). Paul Barlow was the first to submit pictures.

A collection of shots from today the 23rd September 2023 from the West Somerset Railway.

One of the stored GWR castle sets was operating crewed by GWR staff whch were also WSR volunteers. The castle set created a great deal of interest with many travelling. I was informed by a member of staff the two set are stored awaiting decision on their future.

Hope this is of interest.  Kind regards Paul

Good Evening chaps,  Hope all is well.
Please find attached my capture of 'Bahamas' for your consideration, on the downward run with 'The Royal Duchy' earlier today passing Wearde Quay nr. Saltash, running nearly 45 late but thankfully coinciding with a break in the cloud so better lit than it otherwise may have been!

All the best, Regards, Ross.

NDR Update
Shillingstone
On Saturday 7th Oct and Wednesday 11th October we will be holding volunteer recruitment days as we seek to increase the number of volunteers at and on the railway, spread the activity around and begin the ramp up towards running passenger trains.  We are looking for a wide variety of different roles,  many of which are at Shillingstone but a number such as social media, digital design, website updates and the editing and drafting of articles for platform can be done remotely.  At the station we now have more wagons and need more people in our waggoners teams to maintain them as well as work on the rebuilding of our brake van and the 6 wheeled coaches on loan from the S&DRT which we plan to use for passenger services.  Our Café, Shop, Gardens, Events Site maintenance and Pway teams are looking for new volunteers and even a few hours a month would be very useful.  If you can help us with these roles then please respond to the email or come along on one of the recruitment days to meet the volunteers onsite and talk about the roles as well as the activity going on as we continue to focus on the station and the northern extension to cattle creep crossing.

The planning team have now submitted to Dorset Council the plans for our Riverside car park. We have lost much of the space at the front of the industrial units we have been using for the last few years and the 50 spaces in the plan will enable us to cater for both visitors and volunteers.  It would be useful if you could all support this application by commenting favourably on the Dorset Council Planning site.  The planning application is P/FUL/2023/04880 and can be found at Dorsetcouncil.gov.uk under planning and hopefully the link below will take you straight to the application.

We have just celebrated the 160th Anniversary of the Station opening in 1863, Many thanks if you were able to join us.  James (Rail Flicks) one of our volunteers has put together a number of video’s over the years with this one on You Tube showing our 160th celebration.

We still have copies of the celebration guide in the shop at the station for you to purchase.

Thanks for your ongoing support
