66130 and 11 JIA's await departure from Goonbarrow on 24.04.24. Class 08 08752 is also visible. This siding once continued through Bugle and Stenalees, crossing above and below the roads five times on its way, and went all the way down to Carthew. Copyright Jon Hird.

Many thanks Tim - it'll be interesting to see what comes next for the former yard.

GW Signalling
Gavin Johns

Fully recognising its off area but the item yesterday by Michael Roach  (click here) prompted a thought ... there is one Dutton signal box still in use on the national network.  Caersws - owned by NR - is now redundant but pretty intact and others exist on heritage lines, but at Pwllheli a Dutton box remains in use as a ground frame.

The box has an interesting history - provided new to signal the junction of the Elan Valley branch near Rhyader in Mid Wales, it was relocated in 1909 to Pwllheli on opening the extension to the new station.

Down-graded to a ground frame in the 1970's, it now interfaces with the ERTMS system controlling the Cambrian lines.

I attach a couple of photos that might be of interest: note the characteristic level catch handles used by Duttons. Photos are my copyright.

Regards,

Gavin
