Test Train at
Westbury & Melksham
Guy Vincent

Today (22nd September 2022) I had intended going out to see the monthly run of the Network Rail New Measurement Train (1Q23 0558 Reading Triangle-Salisbury-Exeter St Davids-Salisbury-Westbury-Southampton-Reading) and while checking its whereabouts noticed that the schedule had just been altered.    After going to Exeter 1Q23 terminated at Salisbury from where it was given a VSTP path: 1Z23 1258 Salisbury-Reading Triangle via Westbury, Melksham and Swindon.

After seeing the train at Westbury I went onto Melksham for the relatively rare spectacle of it heading east just after 2pm.  For the record the complete formation was 43290 977995 977994 977993 975814 977984 and 43299.  Friday 23rd should see the NMT reach Penzance, unless of course it is amended again.   The former LNER power cars are very shabby now and in need of repainting.

Four images attached. Best regards. Guy Vincent.

Statesman Charter
York to Penzance
Guy Vincent

Another reason to go out today, this time only as far as Clink Road, Frome to see LSL's immaculate class 47 duo 47593 and 47614 (actually 47853 on TOPS) heading westwards with Statesman Rail's 1Z23 0606 York-Penzance 'Cornish Explorer Statesman'.  This is a 3 day excursion so no doubt the train wil be well covered as it makes its way through the Duchy.    The full formation is: 47593 47614,  17056 6708 (Mount Helicon)  3438 (Ben Lomond)  3188 (Cadair Idris)  80043 (Kitchen Car)  3229 (Snowdon)  3312 (Helvellyn)  1211 (Snaefell)  3384 (Penyghent)  3426 (Ben Nevis)  3344 (Ben Cruachan).

With best regards. Guy Vincent

A very nice picture Paul - I (KJ) personally think the bovine inclusion makes the picture all the more interesting.
Thank you.
