​On Friday 20th September 2019 I set off early to head to Dawlish with perfect conditions, the sun was shining, tide was in and a strong Easterly wind meaning big waves!

The date is the 16th March 1985. Amidst the snowy slopes of Dartmoor, 50007 Sir Edward Elgar heads away from Okehampton seen at Fatherford with the 17.20 Meldon Quarry - Paddington 'Decennial Belle' . This scene has been utterly transformed by the construction of the A30 Okehampton Bypass which was started in 1986 and completed in 1988. Copyright Clive Smith.
