Wivlescombe Tunnel

Evening Keith,

A site visit to Wivelscombe tunnel on the 19th April 2022 produced two photographs for the CRS.
GWR High Speed Service, Down direction working emerges from Wivelscombe tunnel.
West cutting and portal of Wivelscombe tunnel.
From observations made on site and a quick look back through our records the tunnel appears to have been completed in 1907 as part of the deviation of the line inwards. I’m aware there are several excellent articles already on the CRS website but the plaque above the tunnel portal definitely declares 1907.

Excellent weather always makes the day that much more pleasant.
More images of other locations visited this week in Devon and Cornwall to follow.

Kind Regards,
Mark Dennis Howells BEng (Hons) MPWI MIAM
Senior Asset Engineer (Drainage & Lineside)

Lelant Crossing
Dennis Clarke
I was at Leland station today (21st April 2022)  and took a few pictures which I have enclosed. It appears that the crossing is going to be re-instated, although in a slightly different place. Regards, Dennis

Thanks for your report Dennis - it looks as if for a few weeks those wishing to access the foreshore from the platform are going to be faced with quite a pleasant though long deviation.
