Pictures from our guest photographer
Marazion and Newquay
Howard Sprenger
These pictures from Howard Sprenger who also features on this months Home Page - Howard has brought us a lot of pictures from the 60's particularly of the Falmouth branch.
Picture
A few more from the early 1970s - two at Newquay taken in January 1972, together with a slide of Newquay on 5th June 1975 bought with copyright. There is also a shot of Marazion from 1st June 1972. Again, my apologies for the quality of the colour in the 1972 photos - unfortunately this batch hasn't aged very well, but hopefully they are of some interest from a historical point of view. Best regards, Howard.

From an unusual angle
Lostwithiel

Lostwithiel semaphore from Brunel Quay. 30th July 2023. Copyright Andrew and Diane Jones.
Dear Keith and Valerie,  Will the rain ever stop!
Decided to visit the Lostwithiel Toy Fair on Sunday, forgetting that the town is now one huge carpark. I eventually found a space under the impressive recently rebuilt railway bridge near the park.
Please find attached photograph of a lonely semaphore signal adjacent the renovated Brunel Quay guarding the station and level crossing.
I made a note to try and capture more photographs of the railway in its surrounding environment before all is swept away in the name of progress.

Very best wishes Andrew and Diane

Catch those views while you can - many thanks to you both.

Memories of the good old days at
Swindon

This is a repeat and maximised copy of a picture taken by Neil Phillps. This has ben done at the special request of Kevin Couling who  thinks that the gentleman in the cab is none other than his Dad - we hope so.
Many thanks Neil - smashing picture.

Western at
Redruth/Rattery
Andrew Vine

The recent picture of the maroon Western at Redruth from Steve Widdowson appears to be D1070 Western Gauntlet, by enlarging the image and deciphering the lettering on the nameplate.  1A56 was a summer Saturday Penzance-Paddington service in 1968 and 1969, but D1070 was repainted blue in early 1969, so I think we can say it is the 10.30 (SO) Penzance-Paddington in summer 1968.

Hopefully that is enough of an excuse to send you a picture of D1070 from my collection, also taken in the summer of 1968, leaving Totnes on 1V73 the 08.50 Liverpool-Plymouth.  Unfortunately the photographer is unknown.

Best wishes
Andrew Vines

D1070 seen at Rattery with the 08.50 Liverpool - Plymouth in 1968 Copyright unknown.
A good bit of detective work Andrew - well done - a nice picture too. Nice to hear from you too.

- The picture of interest supplied by Steve Widdowson - the work and copyright of Rya Bishop.
Also from Roger Geach - Hi , nice picture at Redruth with the Wrens on the brute .

This is a Crewe built western 1031 to 1073 but no idea which one.

Suspect the picture is either 1968 or 1969 as 1a56 was the 1030 Penzance to Paddington service in 1968 and 1045 in 1969.

Not enough to go on to id the western sadly , and many still in that livery then.

Did the photographer take anything else in Cornwall that day I wonder ?

Cheers.  Roger Geach
St Austell Box

Also from Roger G. - Morning

I like the older stuff as you know best.

HST etc all turn me off .Just imagine if people had recorded the 60s and 70s like they do now !

Here is  a small picture of St Austell signal box with the signalman looking out  aug 1976 , im surprised the box still stands .

Cheers, Roger Geach

Many thanks Roger - your sentiments are those of many no doubt - however we have to cater for everybody young and older!!
