First delivery of new sleepers for
Okehampton
Alan Peters

Driver Alan Peters writes :-
The first of many railway sleeper trains to Okehampton took place on the evening of 13th January with Colas class 70's top and tailing loaded Salmon wagons to Okehampton where concrete sleepers are being stockpiled to relay the Dartmoor line, The first picture shows 70809 is seen waiting at Credition to enter the possession to Okehampton 70815 was on the rear of the train. The second picture of 70809 on arrival at Okehampton where the sleepers are being off loaded in the car park, which is now the Network Rail compound for the upgrade works.

Refurbishment begins at
 Bristol T. M. '21
Guy Vincent
Since Christmas work has started on preparing the main train shed at Bristol Temple Meads for a much needed refurbishment.  The current roof was substantially repaired and rebuilt between 1988 and 1991 but sadly appears to have received little if any maintenance since then.  Thick moss and a considerable amount of grass can be seen thriving on the outside of the glazed areas and this in turn will have caused water to become trapped and start to seep through the joints and degrade the main fabric of the roof.   Contractors have been assembling the first runs of scaffolding and building up protective hoardings that will remain in place for the duration of the project.   These pictures were taken over the past fortnight.

The pack is being shuffled at Bath Road on 29th January 1983 as 33021 manoeuvres with another unidentified 33. Many a happy hour was spent at the end of the platforms at Temple Meads watching the comings and goings off the 'shed'. I never called them depots. Probably a hangover from my steam spotting days. Regards Clive.
Many thanks Clive.

The signalbox for North Crofty Junction was located on the up side beyond the leading locomotive. The official date of the closure of the signalbox and the removal of the branch was 7th November 1947.
Thank you Mark.
New station
Marsh Barton
David Tozer

Work is set to begin on the construction of the late running Marsh Barton Railway Station next month.
The station should have been up and running in December 2016, but delays, spiralling costs and protracted discussions with the rail industry led to the plan for the new station at Marsh Barton running at shunting speed.
But after planning permission was granted last month, Devon County Council’s cabinet, when they met on Wednesday, unanimously granted approved for the construction of the £16m project.
Many thanks Dave
