A window into the past!, this 1970’s photograph climbing the Glyn Valley near Bodmin illustrates how locations gradually change with the forest of telegraph posts (now consigned to history) and post Beeching rationalisation.
I knew the gentleman responsible for singling stretches of the Cornish mainline whose cost saving measures were fashionable with the industry at the time and as it has proved many times since a huge mistake costing millions to put right.
Next year sees the reduction of signal boxes making photography more challenging as the railway scene becomes even more sterile ad those locomotive hauled diagrams become rarer with only the 800’s and the odd 66, plus a few specials which surely will feel the brunt of the environment lobbyists some day soon, I feel very privileged to have lived through happier times!
