I grabbed the opportunity yesterday (11th May 2019) to get some HST pictures of the final days of the long haul services. There are a couple of shots of Hst's around Ivybridge . The first shows 43162 arriving into Ivybridge on the 1A80 service the 07.59 departure from Penzance. The second shows 43185 Great Western approaching Ivybridge on the 1A94 service the 15.52 departure from Penzance.
             Best wishes, Jon.
Many thanks to you Jon.

A sentimental journey
the end of an era of luxury travel.
Clive Smith
Something a bit different from me as we start the final week of the Londons with HSTs and the end of the buffet cars.I took a trip to Paddington on Friday from Ivybridge direct on the 06.41 Penzance train returning at 21.03. This allowed me to photograph the two Cornish arrivals in the terminus, photo HSTs and other classes at Kings Cross and attend a 30th anniverary of former BR colleagues I used to work with in London. There is definitely now an air amongst the staff on board and at Paddington that we are seeing the end of an era. Thank goodness we have the 2+4 Castle sets.
Regards, Clive Smith
We share the sadness of the occasion captured by your pictures              - many thanks.

(1) I cheekily asked the buffet queue for a pose for posterity. Worked a treat and the two nearest ladies bring the whole scene to life with their smiles . Won't get such scenes with IET at-seat-trolley-service. 10th May 2019. Copyright Clive Smith

(2) Having a few cans of Tribute at an early-ish11.00 to celebrate what will be our personal last HST to Paddington. No last day on the 18th May or farewell tour for me. My good friend Steve Briers toasts the end of an era while the really brilliant GWR on board crew get in the spirit of things. 10th May 2019. Copyright Clive Smith

(5) 11th May 2019. The last HST Down Cornish Riviera. After officially going to IET back in December 2018, the down Riviera did see a further HST on the 26th January, but Saturday's diagrammed use must be the last one with just a week left of front line operation. With 43002 being kept on 'light duties' prior to the planned grand finale on Saturday 18th and the farewell on the 1st June , it was appropriate that Inter City liveried celebrity 43185 was used on the train. It is seen here on the rear of the 10.06 Paddington - Penzance at Cornwood Viaduct near Ivybridge. The front power car was 43009. The pairing with 43172 Harry Patch has now ended. The train was running 30 minutes late and for 25 minutes I waited at this spot with the viaduct bathed in sunshine until the cloud with my name on it rolled by. 11th May 2019. Copyright Clive Smith.

St Pinnock

I managed to capture the last HST run on the Down Cornish Riviera today on St Pinnock viaduct.  Unfortunately, 43 185 was on the London end, so you've got two pictures of the train.  The tree growth around this viaduct is proceeding at an alarming rate.  I reckon that within a year or two, views such as these will be almost impossible.
I hope you've had a good day,
                 Kind regards,  Peter
Many thanks Peter
