11th March 2022

Yesterday afternoon at
Westbury
Guy Vincent
Ninety minutes spent at Westbury and Hawkeridge this afternoon brought a couple of surprises.

Pictures 1&2) Former LNER operated Power Cars 43257 and 43299 with test coaches 975984 977994 977993 975814 and 975995 make a spirited departure from platform 1 Salisbury-bound with the monthly 1Q23 Reading-Exeter-Westbury-Southampton-Salisbury infrastructure monitoring train.

Pictures 3&4) DC Rail's 6Z52 1118 Oxford Banbury Road - Machen Quarry was re-routed from Thingley Junction to run down the Melksham single line to Westbury where on arrival at 1340 the train stabled on the down reception line. The loco, 60046 then went across to the up sidings and was refuelled before returning to the rear of the empty train and continuing its journey to South Wales, departure being at 1447hrs.

Yesterday afternoon at
Hawkeridge Junction

Four images taken over approx 40 minutes at Hawkeridge Junction, Westbury today.

1) 70017 passing the junction with the daily well-loaded 4O57 1329 Wentloog - Southampton Maritime freightliner service.
2) 60017 working the 6B33 1335 Theale-Robeston empty fuel oil bogie tanks draws to a halt on the chord from Westbury East Loop Junction as another Freightliner operated train of stone empties, 6C48 1249 Appleford - Whatley hauled by 66620 runs across the junction heading towards Westbury.
3) 60017 waits a while longer as 165135 comes in towards Westbury on the 2O78 1242 Great Malvern - Weymouth.
4) 66553 runs off the Berks & Hants line into Westbury with a recently introduced working, 7Z60 1116 Brentford Town (Day's Aggregates Sdgs) - Merehead.  'Telephoto'ed' from Hawkeridge.

Chacewater to Newquay branch
Trevemper Goods
Dale Chadwick
Hello Keith
I am not (unfortunately!) a member, but follow your site avidly - thought the attached photos may be of interest!

The road from Treloggan down past the Trevemper depot site has been closed for a month for "essential" roadworks. On going along it for the first time since re-opening I was very surprised to see that the Trevemper goods shed had been almost totally demolished. I had to pull over to get some quick photos on my mobile.

Best regards, Dale Chadwick. Mitchell, Cornwall

North Star
Clive Smith

Two pictures of the same loco in different guises. Firstly 47077 'North Star' heads along the sea wall at Dawlish to Kennaway Tunnel with the 1Z19 07.35 Birmingham New Street - Paignton ADEX on the 25th May 1981. 47077 is owned by the Diesel Electric Group at the West Somerset Railway moving there in 2007. It is seen in two-tone green livery as D1661 'North Star' on the 9th June 2017 awaiting departure with the first train to Minehead of the day's West Somerset Railway Diesel Gala. The loco was soon to be repainted to BR blue livery and back to TOPS number 47077.  The loco has just been loaned out to the North York Moors Railway for a two year period arriving there mid January 2022.

Many thanks Clive - I am sorry that this did not appear on site shortly after you sent it a month ago, it was downloaded but somehow I must have been distracted. If there is anybody else who may feel aggrieved at not seeing their efforts portrayed please let me know, KJ

Redruth
Lorry stuck under low bridge

Redruth's low bridge catches another one see Cornwall News Report. 10th March 2022. It's a good job that this occurred during the period of engineering works and no passenger trains otherwise there would have been a considerable disruption to services awaiting a bridge inspection.  https://www.cornwalllive.com/news/cornwall-news/massive-articulated-lorry-redruth-stuck-6782950
