On Saturday 10th June 2023

Members Open Day celebrating 20 years of the Helston Railway

To celebrate 20 years of the Helston Railway free train services were run for members to Truthhall Halt with an opportunity to join a guided walk along the trackbed to the approaches to Lowertown /viaduct.
Aboard the train refreshments were available free of charge and also in the buffet car at Prospidnick cumulating in a 20 year Birthday Cake cutting alongside  the train stabled at Prospidnick Platform.
Many thanks must go to the staff and volunteers of the Helston Railway for making us most welcome during the day.

50042 had its first running day of 2023 today. I took some photos of its light engine test run at 09:30 and then some shots of the first trip to Bodmin Parkway at 10:30.

The loco sounded on fine form and it was good to see lots of passengers on board enjoying the day.

Hello,
Here's one from the further end of the CRS zone.
Preserved class 40 d345 / 40145 on the 0701 1Z40 from Burton on Trent to Weymouth, seen racing through Swaythling station. I believe Class 40s were as rare in the Southampton as they were in Cornwall back in the last century. I recall the thrill of seeing one whistling into Bristol Temple Meads on a parcels train from the north in the mid 80s.
This special raised a similar level of excitement and i was surprised to see 7 teenage rail fans on the station, which isn't an obvious photographic haunt. I managed to get my bike info the left hand side of the shot. I think one of the regular contributors also does this.

Thanks, Kevin.

Thanks Kevin - glad you cycled there. The other person with the bike is of course Colin Burges.
