10th December 2021

Tomorrows meeting
Saturday 11th December 2021
John Ball, Hon. Sec.

Morning, all
We seem to be in a grey area as to wearing masks.  Pubs and Restaurants not required, cinemas are required!  Travelling on public transport has for some time required it.  So, not sure where we stand, legally.
I'm not aware of any ruling by the Hall management.
Being a socially responsible sort of guy, I think that we should advise people to wear them at our meeting, but perhaps it is not a legal requirement.

Regards, John  Ball.
All being well our Chairman Dennis Flood presents :-
'My 49 year railway career - and a bit more Part 2.'

This profusely illustrated talk given by our Chairman Dennis Flood promises  to be a very  amusing and entertaining evening.

Millbrook
Mick House

Member Mick House has written a fine article which can be found in our features concerning the reasons for and the actual replacement of the footbridge at Millbrook station. His 24 photographs show the bridge before and after together with some unrepeatable views taken in the Millbrook area.
To get directly to his article and collection of pictures it can be found in Features July to December 2021 item 2124.  Please click here and scroll s necessary.

A wrap on the kuckles for me.
Platform trolley at Christow  plus
Exploring the Devon and Somerset.
Colin Burges
In yesterdays 'News Column' the Humble Platform Trolley was mentioned- on appeared in Clive Smiths photograph at Camborne. A question was asked - has anybody thought to preserve one of these once familiar items of platform furniture. in and by return our very good friend Colin Burges has put matters to write by giving us links to two impressive articles on his detailed hand. These articles come complete with many pictures taken at Christow and also along the route of the Barnstaple branch.
Dear Keith,

How could you have not said: "Fortunately, there is an example of a Great Western trolley lovingly repaired at Christow."? Perhaps it was tucked away in a shed when you came here so I will excuse you not thinking of the Teign Valley.

The trolley also gets a mention in my Devon & Cornwall route refresher compilation (page 17 of PDF).

All good wishes for Christmas and the New Year to you and your beloved Valerie.
