Martin Street 6:25pm Nov 15 It's 50008 Thunderer & 50001Dreadnought on 19.12.87 2C84 12.13 Penzance-Plymouth. I have an identical shot right down to the bit of white stuff in the 4ft. Please note. We still don't know what the CDA's were doing in Truro yard. - Webmaster
Craig has sent in this picture of 50 008 Thunderer and 50 001 Dreadnought at Truro with an up stopping service on date which was unknown (see next post from Martin Street) on the 2C84 12.13 Penzance-Plymouth. What is of particular interest is the CDA which one can just see in the goods yard - what on earth was it doing so far west? Any ideas, anybody?
Today I noticed the corrugated metal 'sheds' at Burngullow/Blackpool Dryers where the Irvine Silver Bullets were loaded are in the process of being demolished.
Many thanks to Nathan Stockman for these superb pictures of the railmotor. First of all arriving at the up platform at Liskeard Station on the Saturday evening. On the Sunday it is seen travelling to Looe alongside the Looe river (See that reflection) and later on the return working approaching Tarras Crossing at 15.13.
Nathan has just posted a comment on your blog post, Liskeard footbridge Keith Jenkin:
Liskeard Footbridge is being totally replaced at the end of the month during one of the weekend blocks. Weekend blocks at the end of the month see the Sleeper stock run ECS on Sat 24th Nov and Sat 1st Dec as 5Z10 12:38 PZ to LA. Many Thanks for this information - Webmaster Railmotor Trips to Looe on 4 November Cancelled (11 November Trips Still Running) From Tony Hill10/11/2012
The web master thanks Tony Hill for this information and apologises for the late appearance of this info on the site. However the web master has been away for a few days. It is understood that the Railmotor will now also run on Sunday 18th November 2012. Owing to circumstances outside the control of the Great Western Society, the operation of Rail Motor No.93 on the Looe branch on Sunday 4 November 2012 has been cancelled. The Society expresses its very sincere apologies for this cancellation, particularly at such short notice.
The diesel allocated to haul the Railmotor from Bodmin Road to Liskeard failed. The back-up replacement diesel also failed. Despite best efforts by West Coast Railways, First Great Western and Network Rail no suitable replacement locomotive could be provided. Operating restrictions placed on running the Railmotor on Network Rail means that there is no alternative method of running the Railmotor from Bodmin Road to Liskeard. The decision to cancel operations on Sunday 4 November was taken by West Coast Railways who have admitted responsibility. At all times the Society were kept informed, and took immediate action to inform ticket holders of the cancellation. West Coast have given assurances that the trips scheduled for Sunday 11 November will proceed as planned. A decision on trips to replace those cancelled will be made on Tuesday 6 November and this information will be published here as soon as we have it. If it is possible to re-schedule the event then the tickets you have purchased will be valid on that day. If it is not possible to re-arrange then your ticket monies will be refunded in full. Any ticket holders who wish to have a full refund before it is known whether a re-scheduled event can be arranged, should contact the Society by e-mail at: marketing@didcotrailwaycentre.org.uk. As a precursor to the Steam railmotor workings this coming two Sundays, West Coast Railway (WCR) supplied the vacuum braked loco to haul number 93 from the Bodmin Parkway Ground Frame and Liskeard yard. 93 was only given authority to run alone once inside the Liskeard - Looe line, and not along other lines.
The loco sent down was class 33/2 33207, which made a pleasant change from the class 37 & 47s we've been used to, with popular WCR Driver Ray Churchill at the controls. Here are some shots taken at Plymouth, Liskeard & Lostwithel (albeit in poor light) on 9th November 2012. (The sequence starts with the RHTT at Lostwithiel earlier in the day) Very substantial scaffolding has been noted either side of the footbridge at Liskeard. This it is understood is part of enabling works for maintenance of the footbridge.
Craig celebrated November 5th in style with this superb picture of 66011 leading the RHTT across St Pinnock viaduct in full sunlight.
The following pictures, courtesy of Network Rail & Amey Colas give us the privilege of two unusual photographs of work on the Famouth branch. Many thanks to Network Rail & Amey Colas. Both pictures are near or at the 491 yard Sparnick tunnel. Note the straight bore of sufficient size to accommodate double track.
