Viewers will have noted that on this website, that besides our other expert photogrphers we have three Rogers - Messrs Geach, Salter and Winnen. (Sometimes a bit confusing!) Anyway, delighted to have this picture from Roger Geach - a native of Liskeard now resident at Retford. He came down for the week and below we see his magnificent picture of Britannia on St Pinnock viaduct.
DB have put the following twenty Class 60’s up for sale; the notice can be found on the DBS website:
60002 Crewe DMD, 60013 Toton, 60021 Toton,60026 Toton, 60028 Crewe DMD, 60029 Crewe DMD, 60033 Toton, 60038 Crewe DMD,60041 Toton 60046 Crewe DMD, 60047 Crewe DMD, 60048 Toton, 60055 Crewe DMD 60056 Crewe DMD, 60061 Toton, 60076 Crewe DMD, 60085 Toton 60087 Toton, 60095 Crewe DMD, & 60096 Already at St Blazey Hopefully not for scrap, most of those offered were simply stored in serviceable condition because they had reached the 20,000 engine hours cut-off limit. They (DBS) have also put a reserve price on each loco which may be very high reflecting the fact that the locos concerned can easily be recommissioned and then work for many more years. Expect to see Colas and maybe even Network Rail sniffing around Crewe Diesel in the next few days! A most surprising and unexpected development following so quickly the article in the current edition of RAIL magazine. Some of the locos, 60033 and 60087 were supposedly being returned to traffic for the Sandite season and 60096 was included in the DB overhaul programme! On then to Okehampton using his Devon Ranger ticket. Back to Paignton
Many thanks to Phillip and Roger for the following photographs of ' Oliver Cromwell' at full throttle. Roger says that he took these after his 7 AM swim - do we believe him? Hi CRS,
I was just reading your interesting web-page and I remembered a series of photographs shown to me by my dad (Reg Loze - former West Briton reporter) that I had seen many years ago. Searching through the attic I found a set of negatives. I have attached two pictures from this set which I assume, from your article, must have been taken on the 3rd May 1964. They show, I think, 34002 Salisbury on the old Platform 4 at Truro railway station. Apologies for the poorish quality of the pictures, I don't have very sophisticated scanning facilities. Also, the negatives themselves have not fared too well over the intervening years. Perhaps someone might recognize themselves. Maybe one of your members is even present in these pictures ? Hope you find them of interest. Mike Loze Delighted to show these pictures Mike - the quality is pretty good - your submissions highlight the idea behind the CRS website - to show those pictures which might otherwise be lost forever. Does anybody out there recognise themselves - maybe you were a babe in arms? These pictures have also been added to the steam railtours section for that date. Many thanks to you Mike In hindsight it is wondered if Network Rail/FGW wish that platform 4 was retained? Steam in Cornwall ...not quite
47237 pilots 44932 over St Germans viaduct on Sunday 01st Sept. 2013 on the Bristol Par service. Cheers Roger Geach Welcome back to Cornwall Roger, nice to hear from you. A further note from Roger clarifies the reason for the diesel leading the steam. I understand the 47 went on the front at Newton Abbot , it had been on the rear . The 47 was put on the front due to line side fires in the Exeter area which the black five was blamed for starting. The 47 was doing all the work at St Germans . Try again this Sunday ! Rog Fifty years ago, this coming Saturday, on the 7th September 1963 saw the last of the passenger services on the Hemyock branch. The line closed to passengers w.e.f. the following Monday the 9th September 1963. Freight in the form of milk traffic continued for some time until 31 October 1975. Reminders of this quaint little line can be found in both the diesel railtours section (24th October 1974) and in the Devon Galleries - Hemyock branch.
The Cornwall Railway Society had a very successful visit to the Tretheake Mill Railway on Sunday 1st September 2013. Pictures of the event are shown below. A collection held for a chosen charity raised £76. The Cornwall Railway Society wishes to express their gratitude to Mr. Peter Smith, the owner of the Tretheake Mill Railway and also to all the drivers and other staff in attendance. Hi mate. I was at Goonbarrow yesterday all day so missed the Black 5 / Class 47 combo. Class 47 was on the front from Newton Abbot- I bet that went down well!
I did see a fabulous sunset though - here's a picture. Regards Craig Many thanks for the sunset picture it really is fantastic. Many thanks Craig |
