Having photographed the stone train Roger continued his session with pictures of the massive scaffolding works associated with the repaint of the Royal Albert Bridge now in its final phase. Re Sand Train - Burngullow to Exeter Riverside. Mon 19th Aug 13
Overnight 7Z26 18.17 Westbury to Burngullow overnight should result in 7Z27 11.13 Burngullow - Exeter Riverside 59202 x 16 JYAs allocated. First visit of a class 59/2 on this traffic. Many thanks to the source. Saturday 17th August was 110 years to the day that the first Great Western Railway bus service was launched from Helston to The Lizard. Unfortunately the weather was not the best which Cornwall could offer, the rain intensity increasing as the cavalcade arrived at the Lizard. The Thames Valley & Great Western Omnibus Trust celebrated the inaugural service of the GWR bus with a cavalcade of historical buses along the original route. The 1927 GWR Guy bus was brought from Maidenhead specially for this event. The bus which originally operated from Penzance depot later became a hoilday home at Perranporth and suvived mechanically intact until rescued by Colin Billington in 1997. Since then it has been completely restored to its original condition. It came to Cornwall in for the centenary in 2003 at which time the body was just a skeleton and again in April 2011 when it was displayed at the Penzance Vintage Bus Running Day. The Cornwall Bus Preservation Society’s 1978 Bristol VR double decker, which was painted in GWR livery for the centenary of this famous bus service in 2003, also taking part was one of First Kernow’s modern low floor buses, which has been specially painted in traditional GWR livery. First, who operate this route today are the successors to the GWR, operating both buses and railways, the latter under the First Great Western franchise, in Cornwall. This information obtained from the web press release. Every congratulation to the Thames Valley & Grate Western Omnibus Trust for the display. We are most grateful to Roger Salter for the pictures which follow. Another odd one that has appeared, the owner of Croft Farm has now sold up and moved but he took this in 2006. Croft Farm was/is a mile on from Goonhavern Halt in direction of Sheperds.
From Derek Brooks, Recorder Goonhavern Old Cornwall Society. Many thanks Derek N.B. This train will run on Sunday 25th August not the 18th as mistakenly advised in this column - apologies.

Hi Keith, We went to the NT property at Trerice, afterwards we went around the corner to Coswarth Crossing on the Newquay Branch. Saw the 11.35 from Paddington go through. It approached at little more than walking pace at the earliest possible time that I thought it could arrive. It had 22mins to cover the remaining 4 miles into Newquay! Regards Mike Many thanks Mike. N.B. The ungated crossing at Coswarth situated on a very minor road has been the scene of several accidents |
