Hi Keith, Some pictures of the first Colas engineering train 6C22 in Cornwall on Fri 15th (Liskeard) and Sat 16th at Truro yard of Colas class 70s 70807 & 808. There were two other Saturday evening / Sunday morning workings which I missed. Kind regards Craig Many thanks Bank Holiday SUNDAY and MONDAY 24th and 25th May. We will have the usual sales stands of books, magazines, dvd's and general items of interest, including quite a large selection of OO gauge and an old O gauge train in blue of uncertain origin and type! If you're in the area please support.
Hi Keith, just a couple of snaps of Isaac and Alex, the two Sentinel shunters at Goonbarrow receiving some much deserved TLC this afternoon. These little locos perform tremendous feats of strength daily hauling thirteen of the mighty loaded CDA clay wagons at a time as they marshall them into trains at Rocks Driers, ready to be collected and taken to Fowey. They make a most impressive sight as they seemingly shrug off this heavy workload. Hope this is of interest,
Best regards Gareth. Many thanks Gareth During the night track relaying in Highertown Tunnel, Truro will be carried out on the down main line to Penzance. Three trains are involved with this work, one with track panels stabled in Truro Yard from Friday evening. One spoil train and a ballast train complete with crane to lift and lay the track, running from Westbury to Truro via Penzance. The timetable shows a full service tomorrow, so this would have to be a very slick operation. See More on inside stories 'Features Page'
David was at St Davids to capture the following pictures at 10.17 and 10.40 Thank you David. Quite considerable engineering work has been going on at Liskeard where the track approaching and in platform 3 has been renewed. We have Graham Mann Network Rail Programme Manager to thank for the following pictures which show everything neat and tidy, one could call it 'ship shape; if it were at Looe! Liskeard, platform 3, Looking towards Looe. 15th May 2015. Note:- The "detectors" are the "train protection warning system" TPWS for short, the driver gets an audible warning in the cab, if he doesn't apply the brake the system will kick in and brake automatically and doesn't over run into the stop blocks. Copyright Graham Mann Note from Graham Mann. The check rails are warranted because of the curve radii being below 150metres, there wasn't one there before which I assume was due to a standard change over the last 50 or so years when the old track was previously installed.
Hi Keith, 1630 1Z31 Kingswear – Slough at Cullompton. Again only me and my pal. Dave Many thanks David - this a marked image.
Keith, A couple from this morning. 150101 with the 0900 Cardiff (Central) – Plymouth and 70000 with the 0709 1Z30 Slough – Kingswear. There were only two photographers at Cowley Bridge, myself and an old school pal. Dave Many thanks David Members and friends of the Cornwall Railway Society travelled on the 08.44 The Cornish Riviera Express to Exeter, before retracing on the next service back to Newton Abbot for a visit to the towns GWR Museum. This is housed in the Town Hall a 5 minute walk from the Railway Station. A well worthwhile visit with plenty of railway memorabilia and very helpful staff. This is highly recommended. With heavy rain already in the Newton Abbot area the planned walk of the sea wall was abandoned, but then with brightening skies at Starcross we decided to head for the Starcross - Exmouth ferry. We were the only members of the public on board. We then took the 15.23 train from Exmouth passing the new station at Newcourt - this is located just after Topsham. We continued on the same train via Exeter St David's to Paignton. Fish and Chips were the order of the day at Paignton, the fish being twelve inches long filling the plate and ourselves for our journey home to the delights of everyone. 150514a A wooden signal post from Newton Abbot. A large number of these signals were in evidence at Newton Abbot right to the end of the semaphore signalling, this one is example is in Newton Abbot GWR Museum. The Museum staff were very friendly and helpful for our visit which was most appreciated. Copyright Roger Winnen For more on our visit to South & East Devon see Inside Stories 'Features Pages'
