Thank you for informing us Martin, we can only hope for an early settlement. https://www.rmt.org.uk/news/rmt-confirms-new-strike-dates-in-network-rail-dispute/ "Additionally, take action short of strike by not working any overtime or additional hours or any extended shifts and by not undertaking any call-outs duties from 0001 hours on Saturday 06 June 2015 and 2359 hours on Friday 12th June 2015" This may affect the CRS planned Outdoor Event to visit North Devon on Saturday 6th June. For those intending to go this can only be a case of 'Watch this spot' - the news section on this website.
Don't forget to visit our features section for the full story of our visit to the Gloucestershire and Worcestershire Railway on Monday May 25th 2015
Compiled by Roger Winnen with an added section on Broadway station by Mike Roach. Welcome to a new contributor to our site - David Ive. He reported on this site that his mobile went missing last Saturday and, sadly, it has not been found. However, he has sent us a memento of his visit - this picture of 57303 on 2P70 from Par to Plymouth. He agrees with Sid Sponheimer about those trees, however a nice colourful picture. Thank you David.
Mike has very kindly sent in the following three pictures which besides appearing here will also feature in our branch collection. Many thanks to Mike not only for the pictures but also for the detailed captions which accompany them. Adams Radial 4-4-2T's nos. 30584 and 30583 double-heading the 10:45 ex-Waterloo at Combpyne on 25th June 1960. Note the camping coach in the background. 30583 was sold out of service to the Bluebell Railway following withdrawal in July 1961 but 30584 had already been withdrawn in the February of that year. Courtesy of the Mike Morant collection RCTS: 25th Anniversary Special 28th June 1953 Stroudley A1X 'Terrier' 0-6-0T No. 32667 and Adams radial 4-4-2T No. 30583 at Axminster having double-headed the tour tdfain to Lyme Regis and back. It's apparent from other photographs of this trip that the two locos had swapped positions at Lyme Regis as 30583 was the pilot engine for the outward leg. [Mike Morant collection] My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I got my hands on this negative as it features the rarely photographed LSWR Adams radial 4-4-2T No. 3488 which, thankfully, is still with us today at the Bluebell Railway in Sussex. 3488 was the member of this class that was sold to the government in 1917 and then to the East Kent Railway as their No. 5 in 1919 but subsequently bought back by the Southern in 1946 as emergency cover for the other two survivors. This loco deserves to be in a record book for the ultimates in recycling and is a remarkable survivor. This shot was, of course, taken at Lyme Regis which is conveniently chalked on the hand barrow. The livery is plain black and the picture was taken after November 1946 but before its BR number 30583 and lined black livery were applied in October 1949. Withdrawal from BR service was in 1961. Courtesy the Mike Morant collection Good Evening Keith. I am attaching photos taken early pm today and believe these may be your first of the "naked" Devon end of the bridge. It was remarked upon when we returned on the A38 Monday and I had first noticed that the scaffolding had at last been removed about a week ago but don't usually carry my camera on my twice weekly commute to Plympton. Choose any that you think worthwhile and the second one was taken from the car park and was intended to be a comparison with my colour slide of a Warship already on your website and which I have attached again although it's not quite the right angle! "Blomin trees!!" Sid. Hello Keith. I walked a section of the Two Tunnels Greenway before last Christmas. Attached are the only relics I discovered.
Cheers, Julian Cheers Julian Hello Keith, Attached is a photograph of DRS 37402 pushing Inspection Coach 975025 through Exeter at 12.36 lunchtime, working 2Z02 the 08.52 Reading to Paignton. The special ran via Swindon, the Badminton line and Bristol Parkway. The train left Paignton again at 14.47. Regards, Martin Many thanks Martin Hi Keith, With a helping hand from DRS Class 37 37402 Inspection Saloon ‘Caroline’ was propelled to Paignton, passing near the old Exminster Station today. Of interest this coach 975025, was formerly 60755 used in a Hastings Unit, Dave I'm sure Martin won't mind sharing the entry with David - 'tis the same train. Many thanks David. Evening Keith, Me again! After a quick visit by 37402 to Paignton as reported earlier, the train returned at 14.47 running to Reading via Westbury. Attached are two photographs when the train reached Exeter 15.29. It ran via platform 5, waiting for the Barnstaple train to leave, following it as far as Cowley Bridge Junction.
Regards, Martin. You're very welcome, thanks again - Nice pictures Members and friends of the Cornwall Railway Society visited the spectacular 'Cotswold Festival of Steam' on Bank Holiday Monday 25th May, 2015. Our coach driven by Dave Letcher and Paul Crate left Penzance at 06.15 and picked up passengers throughout Cornwall and into Devon. With almost a full coach we arrived at Cheltenham Race Course Station some 15 minutes early just in time for most to catch the slightly delayed 11.40 service to Laverton hauled by 34092 Wells. On arrival at Toddington 34007 Wadebridge was added to the formation and then tailed the train to Laverton. At Laverton both pacifics joined the front of the train which made a complete return run to Cheltenham. The visit of these two engines of the Southern West Country Class proved the highlight of the occasion for most enthusiasts. Other engines in attendance being 2897, 7820, 4270, 6960, and 5542. The Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Railway must be congratulated on laying on a very fine show complete with the many other attractions to view during the day. We departed 5 mins early from Cheltenham with the fun fair up and running on the race course, only to be halted at a Cheltenham Level Crossing for the passing of a Voyager - a complete contrast of riding behind steam. Back to Cornwall via the M5 and a diversionary route on the A38 into Cornwall we arrived 8 minutes early at Penzance. We must say a very sincere thank you to our coach drivers Dave & Paul who their very professional driving ensured us a very comfortable ride. Many Thanks! This write up cannot be considered complete without expressing our thanks to Roger whose careful and very detailed planning ensured an absolute first class day out for us all - few realise what a devoted servant Roger is of the Cornwall Railway Society. His contribution is immense. KJ More photographs to come in the features section next over the next few days.
